Yes. We should work to amend the Constitution and go to direct election of the President and Vice President. We already did so with the Senate years ago. Time to finish returning the power to the people at large.

If you get rid of the electoral college then you have to get rid of the US Senate. The Virginia Plan was the best way to deal with the disparity between states, whether big or small. If sheer population determined certain courses, small states would be irrelevant, not what the Founding Fathers wanted. The Senate was created to ensure that even small states had powerful voices in the governmental process, much as the electoral college ensures the same thing.

Amnesty Sucks is right. With a straight popular vote, the smaller and less populous states would be ignored.
It sucks that fraud in a couple of states, lately it’s been Florida and Ohio, can turn the Elections, but it would suck worse if voters in the smaller states felt disenfranchised.

Absolutely not. If that were the case then only New York City and Los Angeles would need to vote. All other votes would be screwed.

No. The electoral college was established so that small states were not overwhelmed by larger states in general elections. If we abolish the electoral college, large states like California, New York, Michigan and Florida would dominate the election process at the expense of smaller states.
