You have to show your college / uni's ID. It's a great discount, and you get a free iPod, after rebate. I did it. Lol

If you have a school ID for any level of schooling (high school, college, graduate) and your school has an Apple program in place (determined either once you select or cannot find your school), you only have to enter your ID and password. The discount is so insignificant to Apple that there's no need to literally verify that you physically attend a school year-round, you just need to be affiliated with the school to the extent that you have been issued a login ID and password. That's all the verification they need.
Once you enter that information you are redirected to the Apple website and the student discounts are reflected in the prices displayed. If you shop in the store, you just need to provide a student email address and possibly an ID card. Sometimes they will just take your word for it if you only have one or the other but not both. It's a pretty informal process, no need to worry.
