Adobe gives student discounts. You will need to provide proof of enrollment but that shouldn’t be a problem. The rules vary from country to country so the best way to know for sure is to find someone who’s selling the student version and check their website for details.

Student editions are a one time deal, there are no upgrades for them. If you wan to be able to upgrade you’ll need to buy one full version and then the upgrades. Even if you aren’t currently enrolled you might be able to get the student version from them with your old info. Technically you shouldn’t still be using your old student license unless it’s for educational reasons so if this doesn’t make you uncomfortable then try to get the new student version as well.

I do work on behalf of Adobe, and Adobe does offer upgrades for new product releases. However, the price to upgrade is often higher than just buying the new version at the Student and Teacher Editions discounted price. So, if you’re a student (and you meet the eligibility requirements), it’s cheaper to just buy the new version and get up to 80% off with Adobe Student and Teacher Editions, rather than paying the cost of the commercial upgrade. If you are no longer a student, then you can pay the upgrade price to commercial.
