Why is college and getting a normal job someplace all that matters in this world?

College Jobs
Ever since I was 15, my family only ever talked to me about, finding jobs and going to college after High school, it’s all they talk about.. I have yelled at some of them even, I am hard on myself as a person, and it kills me… Is that all there is to life? Going to college, getting a degree, getting a part time job or anything like a job somewhere say dougnut shop, the only important things to this life? Is that all there is? If ANY conversation besides work and college came up, it was short lived and left alone.. Is college and finding a job for everyone all there is?

Hey… If I could sit at home and play videogames all day long, believe me, I would.
I have to pay for what I want somehow, and unless you have parents that are willing to let you mooch off of them for life, then you get a job too.

No it’s not all there is to life but at 15 they should be your only considerations. Better to get to the goal post as fast as possible so you can fully enjoy all the other things life has to offer. You have a great family.

hell no. look, your family wants you to have a good future and money. Try not to freak at them, you will thank them later. But at the same time, this is their big thing for you. They want you to have a good life. It’s up to you to have a FUN life. College is a lot less about study than about partying. and jobs=money. and money=FUN!
It’s important to be serious and think about college and jobs and the future, but when you aren’t doing that, just have fun and go a little wild.

NO, that is NOT all their is for ANYONE, but if you just stop ASSUMING and THINK about REALITY, you cannot go anywhere or do anything WITHOUT HAVING A JOB that will provide you with MONEY.
Nothing is free – freedom costs money. Facts prove higher education earns bigger paychecks. The more you protest and fight what your family is TRYING to get through your head, the harder they will push.
SO, just TELL THEM – OK, I will go to college, now shut up.

I think its because mothers and fathers want you to get smarter and because they want you out of the house

Hopefully someday you will be your own person and you can do as you desire. The majority of people have a high school diploma and nothing beyond that. I was a federal program manager and had 114 civilians and 280 military personnel working for me. There were a few who had master degrees, a number with bachelor degrees, most were high school graduates and there were some who had never finished high school. Their performance was very similar, in fact most of the time I found better performance and far less problems with those with high school educations. Those with college degrees did not seem to perform any better in most cases. I worked for the Navy for almost 10 years. The number of people with upper level degrees was astonishing but they were incapable of doing even simple tasks without close supervision. Much of their education came from second rate educational programs. I tried setting up a master program on base but the college in the next community would not accept the educational credits from most of the schools the Navy was using so no one was interested in the program. You make your own decisions – most people are happy just making a living and have little interest in making millions of dollars; and they are better people for feeling that way.
