Why Is Choosing A ‘for Profit’ University/college A Bad Thing?

What would be a better option?
Any recommendations of a good school that offers online AND traditional classes in Atlanta Georgia?

“For profit” have as their goal to make as much money as possible from their enterprise, rather than to provide the best education possible, and often those goals come into conflict. I’ve had a lot of students tell me that they attended information sessions with a for-profit and that all the school talked about was how to pay for the program, rather than telling them anything about what they would learn or what made the program good. In other words, the focus was on what was good for them, rather than what was good for the students (they do try to accommodate students, but with things like convenience, rather than quality).
The for-profits rarely hire any full-time faculty members, so the faculty are often distracted by their primary jobs, and in many cases, they lack the credentials that faculty at the not-for-profit colleges would be expected to have.
The better option is to go to a traditional college, even if the courses are not offered in a traditional format. There are certainly plenty of colleges in Atlanta, but without knowing what you want to study and what your credentials are, I can’t really suggest anything appropriate. Keep in mind that if what you want is to take classes online, you aren’t limited to colleges in your own geographic area either.

It is peoples’ precept ion of “for profit” schools that is the problem in my opinion. Wither that perception is right or wrong doesn’t matter The fact is that preparatory school (for profit) degrees are usually looked down on by employers.
Why even go to a “for profit” school? State schools are cheaper and many of them offer open admission and on line classes. Private traditional schools may cost more but will offer financial aid just like the ‘for profits”.

Usually people that go to not for profit universities look down upon universities that are for profit. It is just weird that they never attend the for profit univesity, but they know all about it.
To me for profits and not for profits are all the same. But for profit universities only hire professors to teach not for doing research like the nonprofit ones. I however don’t recommend online classes, you might as well buy the books and read them yourselves.
But if you insist, the number one for profit online university is DeVry University, according to FOX’s news.
