Why doesn’t government stop spending money on college scholarships and promote jobs instead?
Question by Lever: Why doesn’t government stop spending money on college scholarships and promote jobs instead?
Instead of giving millions and millions of dollars for students to pay for college costs, when it’s not even guaranteed that the college students will get a job, why not have government encourage business growth through tax breaks and incentives? This helps everybody, including college graduates.

a better educated workforce is good for the nation. It’s a lot easier to educate now while jobs are scarce that to wait for people to get educated after the economy improves.

um College assistance helps people get better jobs. In order to promote job growth the government has to spend money, which republicans don’t seem to get. How do you think road repairs or construction is paid for?

Do you realize how many thousands of people the university system employs? Plus an educated populous is more likely to find jobs.

Simply because it is political suicide for a politician to not claim that they wish to provide assistance for College education, they would surely loose the next election in the cycle.
College is not the investment it used to be, people will claim well college provides jobs, it makes for a better workforce, etc… A college education only provides jobs to college employee’s, and it really doesn’t provide a better workforce overall. Most of those people with college degree’s still have to go through some sort of probationary training and, most of this training can be easily understood by a high school graduate without secondary education. Jobs that do need additional education can be taught through an apprenticeship program with little or no secondary education.
College tuition cost are starting to rise above average median incomes in the U.S. and, the returns on these degree’s are diminishing leaving many college graduates without jobs and a load of debt after graduation. Many economist are starting to claim that College is in a bubble.
