Why are some people so mentally lazy?
I work in retail, and it seems to me that there are a lot of people who are mentally lazy. For one thing, they often don’t bother reading the price signs, so they end up becoming confused about the prices as a result. Also, a few days ago, after a woman got her receipt, she asked if something on her receipt really cost a certain amount. I responded, “That’s what it suggests!” I’m sure I sounded like a smartass, but I didn’t care. Also, I work as a tutor at a college, and we have printed schedules showing the days and times certain tutors are available. The same students keep showing up over and over again asking if a tutor for a particular subject is available, when there isn’t. I’ve given these same students schedules over and over again, so why don’t they use them?

It is easier to ask than to do the work to find out for yourself.

Some people are simply used to someone else always doing their thinking for them.

Some people dont care about their jobs. Or are preoccupied with chatting or texting friends. Keeping track of the local drama or the hottie that he/she is going to see after work.
Most of the time, if you dont enjoy your work, you slouch at it.
The other side of the coin is intelligence, and learning capacity. Some people just cannot put things together, even if they are trained on it. Its like the neurons between those two places in the brain just dont connect, but get rerouted or something.
Most likely, a gamer in such a position would pay careful attention to details like that and not mess up something simple like stocking shelves, scanning items Etc Etc.
Primarily, most people are visual-spatial. meaning that they need a visual picture to tell them the information their brain needs. like in science class.. you cant picture which bone connects to another, but the picture helps! Same with dummies and their receipts… you almost have to draw them a picture. You just cant get around it, but you have to be nice and anticipate that people are going to ask stupid questions.
I also noticed that sometimes on receipts, some systems tag the tax onto each individual item, making it seem more expensive than its listed rack price.

its not a matter of laziness, its a matter of priorities

Just as you have to work out your body to have energy and strength, you have to work your mind. However, just as stress can make you too tired to work out your body, it can also make your mind too tired to put information together.
May people have learned to let the people willing to work out their minds do the thinking for them therefore they have become metally weak. Other people have a lot of stress in their lives and will seem mentally weak at that time.

I suppose people focus on what is important to them. The lady didn’t focus on the price until she actually paid it. The students probably lost the schedules, or didn’t bother to look at what was posted, until it was important to them.
It’s discouraging.
My pet peeve is people who take no pride in their work. the paper shuffler, the person at the other end of the customer service help line who seems to want to find an excuse to transfer you away rather than HELP you, etc.
There are a lot of people just drifting through life.
