which one is a better factor in choosing a college? prestige or faculty?
i want to take compu eng.
my parents urge me to study at one of the ivy league colleges even though most of them don’t have a good compu eng. faculty (dartmouth, UPenn, yale, brown)
i know that the top universities in engineering are MIT, Caltech, Stanford, Cal. However, they surpass my limits =P
now i’m aiming at a slightly lower top engineering colleges e.g. CMU or Georgia Tech. I wonder, how do they compare to ivy league colleges?
which one will gain a better job opportunity in compu eng.? GIT alumni or Yale alumni (for an example)?
which one will be more respected in society?
which one will be more adroit?

As far as engineering goes, it is not really important where you get the degree from. You will take the same classes and learn basically the same material wherever you go. Having a degree in engineering is something to be very proud of, no matter where that degree comes from, and you will be able to get a job regardless of your school.

Ivy league colleges are for rich and snobbish. If you fall under that category then join there. Otherwise Georgia tech is a good option.
The respect from the society, which society you are referring?
GIT will give you equal job opportunities.

I honestly will ALWAYS put my weight on faculty. If you have a great faculty, they will set you up to succeed. A good professor will be available to students, be involved in student organizations and support student life. They will make sure their material is being understood and if it isn’t, do their best to fix that situation. Just because a school has prestige, doesn’t mean it is currently doing well (“our reputation precedes us”)

Prestige and reputation matter a lot.
CMU and Georgia Tech both have very reputable engineering programs. CMU is a nicer school though.
The Ivy Leagues do not have good engineering programs at all. Except for Cornell, which has a stellar program, and an amazing job placement and alumni network. And the internships you will get are ridiculous.
Another awesome Ivy program is the Management/Engineering program at UPenn. It is a joint undergrad program, and upon graduation, you get a degree from both Wharton and UPenn(artsandsciences). It’s extremely difficult to get into though.
