Where can I find more money for college?
Question by Kayle M: Where can I find more money for college?
Hi Yahoo! Answer-ers.
I am in a bit of a pickle. I just got my financial award from my college and to say the least, I was screwed. My college raised the tuition, and now I need to find a couple grand before July. The problem is that my parents will not co-sign a loan, so I need an alternative. I work very hard at two jobs, but I still do not make enough money to pay. Any suggestions? Want to maybe send me some money?

I’m surprised your parents won’t help. Absent that, you may just have to take a semester off so that you can accumulate more wealth.

Does your job/company provide any type of scholarships? go to fastweb… they have a whole slew of scholarships to apply and grants. Otherwise go to your college financial aid and see if they can set you up with something/ like a student loan that only you are responsible to pay for 6 months after you graduate.
I know how it is… i don’t have enough money for college either.

The first place you should search is your human resources office with both companies. Some companies offer a tuition reimbursement plan to its employees. If all else fails, it is an idea to search for scholarships, but it is pretty late in the scholarship application season. You might have to cut back in the number of courses you take next year if you are unable to find additional funds. However, I will list several free resources to locate money for college.
First, the college’s financial aid office and website has a list of private scholarships offered from outside organizations and companies. Sometimes a college major’s website will list scholarships, too.
Second, the public library has a book listing scholarships with some not even listed on the web.
Finally, I recommend joining several free membership scholarship search websites. There are scholarships for a variety of things including ethnicity, clubs, hobbies, and even wearing duct tape to the high school prom. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search based on information entered onto a form on the website.
Good luck!
