What’s wrong with my coworker?
I work as a Spanish tutor at a college tutoring lab. I have a coworker, whom I’ll call Linda (not her real name), with whom I have had some tension lately. I’ve always found her rather irritating, but I’ve never said as much to her, and we don’t really talk that much. That being said, though, my main issues with her stem from her being too lenient with the students who come in and with not following a structure, because there are certain rules in the lab we are expected to follow. However, I’ve never said anything to her about it, and I’ve never complained to any of my coworkers or supervisors about her. Early this morning, though, we all received an email from the director of the lab reminding us that we needed to start enforcing the rules more. Not only that, but the email also mentioned that certain items, including some notebooks, were missing from the lab, and the director wanted to know what had happened to them. A short time after I read the email, I saw Linda put some of the missing notebooks down on the desk. When I asked her where she had gotten them, she said in a sort of agitated way, “I took them home! I don’t want to talk today! I know what you’ve been doing!” I’ve always thought that she came across as a bit neurotic, but she actually sounded PARANOID, because I haven’t said anything negative about her to any of the coworkers or supervisors in the lab! What could be wrong with her, though? I know that she takes Effexor, which is an antidepressant, but could she have other major issues besides depression?

i would try to talk to her… sometimes people are going through things that we don’t realize. however, if she won’t talk, you should say something to your supervisor. cover your own butt, because if she is taking things home and not following the rules, eventually someone is going to get in trouble… you need to make sure it is the right employee

She is just plain nuts! Sounds like she can be rolled over pretty easily and not confrontational. I would think she suspects everyone at this point. You caught the attitude because you she she had the notebooks. She probably thinks you are going to tell on her. I doubt you have anything to worry about though. She is not likely to do anything.
