What’s a good rate for a college private tutor?

I’m getting tutored for $12/hour, plus $1 for every extra five minutes (ex. 1 hr 5 min = $13, 1 hr 10 min = $14, etc.). Am I getting ripped off here, some friend of mine mentioned he tutored for $8.50/hr and said my tutor was charging way too much.

$12hr sounds fair. I know my sister’s tutor charge about $25- $50 an hr for high school students.
In college, I actually get free tutoring. I guest my tuition covers the free tutoring. Try looking at your school and see if they offer free tutoring instead of paying for a private tutor. Usually it is other college student who are tutoring you (peer to peer tutoring)
IF they do offer free tutoring, you could always tell your tutor that, and than he will lower his price very quickly.
