What should I go to college for?
Question by Laugh: What should I go to college for?
I am 17 and a senior and I am thinking about college… I found I really like helping people with school work and teaching them. The problem is I do not want to be a teacher. I was thinking about being a tutor, do you have go to college for that?? Is that a career??
Ok if not what else should I look into. Here are some things about me:
- I hate getting up early
- I do not want to be stuck working fast food the rest of my life
- I am good at school in general and I am good at math and science
- I want to make a difference and help kids
- I like working with kids
- I am kind of shy
- I like learning new things
- I was thinkin about a career in art/photography but I am not sure anymore…
- I also would like to maybe open my own business
So based on this what would you suggest for me?? Thanks!!
Eh I really do not think the medical field is for me…

A tutor isn’t really a college career. I mean, feel free to tutor if you want and some people are capable of making a living off of it, but its not a highly lucrative career.
Sounds like you have no idea what you want to be when you grow up. And that’s OK! Most freshmen in college don’t really know what they plan to do with their degrees. I highly recommend getting your Associates in either Science or Business. Both of which you can do quite a lot with and it sounds like topics you’re interested in.
If you like the medical field at all, I can’t help but recommend that as well (I adore working in the medical field). Just about anything in the medical field has a nice salary and you can advance quickly and often. Not to mention you’ll almost always be able to find a job. There are all kinds of areas of study, not just nursing or being a doctor. There’s pharmacology, radiology, pediatrics, etc. LOTS to look into. Just a thought.
