What Kind Of Criteria Should You Consider When Choosing An Engineering Major In College?

College Selection
I’m trying to decide on what type of engineering I would like to go into. I’m leaning towards computer engineering but not entirely there yet. What should I consider if I were to choose an Engineering major while I’m in my freshman year in college?

consider job opportunities. computer and electrical engineers are the most employed.

Do you have to choose your first year? My university wouldn’t even really let you declare one (just a “preference”) until the end of your 2nd semester, I don’t think. You could stay there for up to 2 years without causing a lot of problems in most disciplines, I think. That gives you time to find your talents and figure out “who you are”, for lack of a better definition. If you’re going to a school that has a lot of engineering options, there’s usually some kind of intro to what all of them are and what they do. . . definitely take advantage of that if you’re unsure.
I sort of had things easy since I actually both liked chemistry and was good at it. . . since you have some idea of what you like, I’d think about why computer engineering appeals to you and see if you can find those same conditions with any other discipline.
What I did. . . what do you like? What are you good at? Do you want to be outside, inside, at a desk, in a plant. . . or eat green eggs and ham?
