the difference between a tutor and a teacher? one teaches, the other shows you where to learn, a tutor in college will not sit by your shoulder and talk you through your equation, they dont care if you miss a class, if you fail it is your own fault, a teacher MUST teach you, it is thier primary purpose.
bishps stortford university prospectus can tell you all you need to know as they are a teaching university for teachers and tutors and also lecturers (they just talk a lot and you study what they said)
rank? depends on where you work, a teacher/tutor/lecturer is the lowest rank in all, in school, u know the scheme, in college it goes up to DR, and in university it goes up to professor, but all are dependant on qualification, experience and how many students pass your classes, and of course a professor in a uni that is also a department heard.. wow on the wages lol

I would guess that a tutor is someone who teaches one on one, as opposed to a teacher who generally works with a class.
