Many products and services offer student rates, but most of them have added age restrictions to their student discount offers. As an older student, this ticks me off. Why is this allowed?

I’m getting tutored for $12/hour, plus $1 for every extra five minutes (ex. 1 hr 5 min = $13, 1 hr 10 min = $14, etc.). Am I getting ripped off here, some friend of mine mentioned he tutored for $8.50/hr and said my tutor was charging way too much.
