i am a sophomore too and i would say yes because then once you do, you wont have to take out as much loans and if you do, itll be easier to pay them off. also a good habit to start saving money now.

if your parents make 100K and you are an only child it might get difficult to get financial aid. If you can get into you r university of your choice by all means do that instead of a community college, I have been to 4 community colleges before I went to my University and boy was I not prepared as good as these students had been in this University!!! So please if you can avoid it do so!!! I am on student loans right now, but I use to get financial aid before, if your parents are a low income family than you might not have to worry especially if your mom stays home. Please if you can just go off to college honey! and do it all! it NEVER THE SAME TO BE A TRANSFER STUDENTS NEVER!!!. I am one, there are Law Schools grad schools that see that you attended these community colleges so they will take that into consideration as they will know you are not as prepare as the 4 year student or those that were than since Freshman year.
Good Luck to you I should have worried when I was your age also…instead I ended up in a community college, no offense but if you can do better by all means do it for yourself!!!!!

As a sophomore in high school, I would start saving money now. You don’t have to do anything too dramatic.. just cut back on spending here and there so you can start up a fund and earn a little interest. If you’re planning on getting a job to begin saving, just try and remember that your grades and extracurriculars are more important for getting you into a 4-year university.. so don’t overwork yourself! Without a nice student application, you will be going to community college regardless of how much money you save!
Community college is certainly an option and by all means, plenty of people transfer to prestigious universities from there. But speaking from personal experience (I’m a sophomore at UCLA), if you can transfer into a good 4-year university straight out of high school, do it. Your study habits are more likely to not have been dulled by community college and you won’t have to worry about not making it into a good university from community college.
Money should never be an excuse for not attending a university. If you come from a low-income family, you can get tons of financial aid from the government that will pay for more than half of your college expenses every year. You can even get loans that don’t accumulate interest until you graduate and that you don’t have to pay back until after then. Not only that, there are tons of scholarships that are excellent ways to get money (even some that will pay for your entire tuition like the Gates Millennium) .
Right now, don’t stress too much about college. Have fun in high school, keep your grades sharp and put money away here and there when you can.
