Q&A: Im pretty sure I have dyscalculia but im struggling with my college degree in MA?
Question by tasha06: Im pretty sure I have dyscalculia but im struggling with my college degree in MA?
Hi before i moved back to MA, my theropist told me she believes I have something called dyscalculia which is a math learning disability. I found that tutoring never helped, practicing never helped, sitting with the teacher didnt help. I went to get my classes today for fall semester and he told me that Ma has really made it hard to get around any of the maths and I need 3 including statistics to get into my next courses. In FL the college had a test i could take and would have been exempt from it but up here they are just cold hearted and I have worked my butt off to get so far and now ive hit a brick wall. I feel that my education has just been washed down the drain and now idk what to do. I feel like bc i can not pass math im this stupid person. I have sat down and it took me 3 hrs to complete 10 math questions. And they were all wrong. Im 22 yrs old im a female i just dont know what else i have for options to get around this math. Anyone know of anything or something i can do? Thanks.

Usually different techniques like getting someone to try and bury the information by repeating themselves about it over and over again doesn’t work with dyscalculia.
You should try learning by highlighting information you are studying in different colors, making up a song or even a dance to remember different things in maths.
The best thing to do is believe you can do it because if you keep telling yourself you can’t you will soon believe it, you need to be more positive.
Try and get tested for dyscalculia and then you will be able to know there is a reason and your not just stupid, asking a dyscalculic sometimes to do a maths question is like asking a person with one leg to run!
You are not stupid, people who are stupid are people who notice they struggle with something and don’t even try and then give up.
