Q&A: How can I start saving and earning money for college?
Question by itsmeofcourse!!: How can I start saving and earning money for college?
I want to secure my financial position for college, and I could use some tips in doing so. I’ve still got a few years until college, but I guess it’s better to earn more now to make it easier during college, right? What kind of job should I get so I can keep my grades up and also do it efficiently? What spending habits should I cut back on?
Thanks in advance!!

It certainly doesn’t hurt to earn money now, and you are smart to be thinking ahead. By all means, work summers and holidays if you can, but you might also consider volunteer opportunities for two reasons.
Many companies and organizations who utilize volunteers also offer college scholarships to those same interns/volunteers. Too, proof that you are committed to community work sets you apart from other students.
–Consider starting your own small business.
–Help tutor or mentor at risk youth.
–Work on local or state political campaigns.
–Report for a local newspaper, TV or radio station.
–Organize other teens for any number of causes–cleaning up a local eyesore, running errands for elderly or disabled shut-ins, exercising animals at the local shelters, there are dozens of unmet needs you could fill.
Creat your own niche somewhere and convince the powers that be to give you a chance.
Find something to do that is important and different from your peers and document what you are able to accomplish. Don’t be afraid to ask whomever you are helping to record what you have done. Photos and letters will work. (If what you have done is newsworthy, let the local media know! Perhaps they will run a story on your accomplishments.)
The point is, admission officers want students with sterling grades, but they also want a diverse student body, people who are self starters and people who can bring them reflected glory from their own good works.
Call the admission offices of serveral colleges you would like to attend and ask them about their criteria for admission and any students they have admitted with unusual talents and/or histories.
If you can prove to them that they really need you, they will help you with financial aid. Good-luck.
