Poor College Student. Needs help finding a vehicle.?
Question by muffin: Poor College Student. Needs help finding a vehicle.?
So the title says it all. I’ve been saving money but I’m still unable to find a car on craigslist, ebay, or even from just driving around. Are there any other online sites that are legit at car classifieds? And does anyone know if college student can get discounts from dealerships of any kind or any car donations that focuses directly on college students?
Thanks.

autotrader.com has legit sales. The reason being is that you have to pay to list a car whereas everyone else is free, almost. So the scammers stay away from that one. But no, as far as I have ever known there isn’t a car donation to college stewdunts. You have to beg & borrow for the $$$ from the family I guess. The only discounts from a dealer are the cars markup & incentives. Being a colledge stewdunt, I’m guessing your credit rating isn’t bad, just not enough of credit history right? All you can do there is get a trusting family member to co-sign. But in order to even qualify for that you need an income to justify the cost of the car loan. Meaning can you pay it back on your wages. Keep at it. Cheers!

Cars.com, Autotrader.com, your local dealer websites (inventory), Yahoo Autos. You should just go your local dealers and look at Vehicles. Don’t buy the first day. Bring a pen and some paper and write down the stats of your top few at each dealership.
Go home and check Kbb.com and NADA.com for blue book values and see which is the best deal based on that, millage, condition, year, matinence and features.

I’m also a poor college student and i got a two year old car for 150 bucks a month. I searched for a whole month! This is the key, searching around. as im sure you’ve noticed. I went to one of those small dealerships that have like 10 or 20 cars on site. they are more willing to give you a better deal than the big name brand dealers. Granted, i had a trade in but it was still a great deal. good luck! oh and the only way to find out if a dealership has student discounts is to simply ask.

Hello muffin.
I suggest looking in craigslist but NOT in the college town you are in. People know college students are desperate for cars in college town so they keep the prices high. Look in towns at least 20 – 30 miles away and I’m sure you will notice lower prices.
Prayer also helps a lot.
