It will be very hard until you pass the Bergens Test (language and cultural proficiency), and/or until you can write and carry on business conversation with prospective employers in Norwegian. Word of mouth is your best bet until your language skills improve. Get into the intensive, daily norskkurs and start to depend on Norwegian exclusively–you must force yourself, because it’s too easy to rely on English when so many Norwegians want to practice their English with you.

Q&A: What are my options for getting money for college?

Question by wicket649: What are my options for getting money for college?
I’m going to college and did my Fasfa already. Based on my fasfa I will need to get a private Loan/PLUS Loan of around 7000 dollars. I can’t get the loan myself because I’m only 17 my parents can cosign, but they have horrible credit. What are my options? Is there any type of private Loan I can get from a specific bank? I don’t want people advertising their loan companies I want some facts about taking out loans and what there needs to be to get one. I want to know what kind of options am I looking at (don’t want options like scholarships for I’m already done some of those with no success). Based on my Fasfa report I already should get stuff from Perkins Loan/Stafford and thats the loans I will get based on Fasfa already. I’m short 7000 dollars… what to do?

I want to leave the hotel industry which I’ve been in since I was attending college and find a job using my B.S. in Marketing. What is a good direction to go and how can I best explain my desire to change careers without looking like I’m giving up?

Best answer:

Answer by Miss L
You shouldnt have to ‘explain’ anything. Just go for it! Why should it look like you’re giving up. Think of it as expanding your horizons. There’s nothing wrong with growth and change- especially when it’s for the better.

Q&A: Getting a PhD with no money for college?

Question by Brianne: Getting a PhD with no money for college?
I want to become a psychologist dealing specifically with criminals. I’m currently in my sophomore year of high school, so I know I could change my mind, but I’ve never been more set on a career choice than this one.

I’m in all advanced classes, and I do well in mostly everything but math. I don’t know my GPA or class ranking, because my school doesn’t disclose that unless you make a special appointment with the counselor.

I come from a very low income family. I live in apartment with my sister and mother – my dad’s an alcoholic, and I think he’s currently in jail. I want to be able to get through basic college and on to grad school. However, unless I get pretty much a full ride scholarship, I won’t be able to.

If anyone can help me with this, please, let me know. Any information you can offer – scholarship info, grants, personal experiences – is great.
If it helps any, I play the clarinet fairly well, and I’ve taught myself to speak Russian. So, if there are any sorts of scholarships I could get for those…

Pretty much no one can actually afford to pay for college – we’re all on scholarships and loans. Some grad school science programs actually pay YOU to go to grad school if you work as a teaching or research assistant, so you might not have to worry about grad school costs. Applying to state colleges and universities gives you a better chance of a full ride to college than the big-name schools.
