Need Help With Choosing A College Major.?
In the fall i’ll begin my college career. My first semester i’m taking basic classes.Math,English,Science w/lab and some elective. The problem is i dont know what to major in.
Business Administration was my first choice, but people keep saying that it’s a real common degree and it’s still hard to get jobs even with a MBA because thats common too.
Sociology was my second choice, but after reading up on it people say you can’t find jobs after college with that degree.
I’m not looking to be a millionare but i was looking to major in something that would put me in the middle class and up.
So if you have any advice,it would be greatly appreciated

MBA’s are in demand now. If you like business, there’s no reason a lack of jobs should scare you, since I think your information isn’t correct on that. Yes, if you are just a college grad. with a business administration degree, jobs are scarce since you are competing with older workers, etc. But if you have that MBA you are much better off in the work world and will have a broader range of career choices after you graduate. One school I was looking at when my daughter was considering an MBA had a 98% placement of their grads with MBA’s. It will depend on the quality of the program and the quality of the college though. When you research colleges, make sure you ask them their “placement rate” for grads with their MBA’s then.My mom had a sociology degree and at first worked as a social worker. Very depressing and underpaid overworked hours. Then she got her master in sociology and ended up teaching at a college which she loved but still not the best pay but ok. I would tell you my sister-in-law was in social work and these people are a special breed. Money can’t matter at all since they are so underpaid and the goverment is always on their case so lots of her co-workers drop out the field after just their first job she said. So if you like Business I’d say go with the MBA. If the MBA seems to be to tough, or you change your mind for some reason, you could look into other similar fields in the same realm, like Marketing, Advertising, Human Resources, etc. Human Resources again doesn’t pay as well and it’s harder to find the starter job but it does kind of mix your idea of business with sociology. It’s always a good idea to try to interview people, or ask them to a lunch, or visit a business, so that you can see what these jobs you’re thinking of actually do. I know my husband, who’s an eye doctor, is always happy to talk to students who are trying to decide if that is the career for him. It is very flattering for people and they usually love it if you ask if you can stop by their business just to get advice about what their career is like, you know? Well good luck in your career! I’m sure you’ll be great!

Honestly give it a year. Start of in something like business and then just take general ed glasses the first year. Then try and decide something after your first year. You can get a job with a Business Administration degree, its just hard to gt a job in anything right now so be glad your just going into college and not graduating. However if you want a defined career that you can get a job right out of college think about nursing, engineering, teaching (not just for girls, think high school) Advertising, Graphic Design, Chemistry.
