Very good school. You will need excellent grades because of the competition. Check out collegeboard.com and that should help lead you in the right direction of what that school is looking for.
Only 11% of applicants are admitted.
You should probably have at least a 650 or higher on all SAT sections.

You need to make an appointment with your high school counselor and be sure you enroll in the college track courses in high school. This will require at least 3 higher maths… Algebra I and higher. 3 sciences, 4 English, history, government, foreign language… they can map it all out for you.
Oh, and you might want to start saving if this is the school you want to attend. It will cost you 56,000 to 67,000 a year. Well over 224,000 total. You MIGHT just want to warn your parents about that now while they have a little time to prepare… and you can’t borrow more than around 27,000 total on your own without their help.
good luck.

Columbia is a very good school and is part of the Ivy League (if that matters). It is extremely competitive and acceptance rates are around 11-12%. I would suggest you meet with a high school counselor and tell him/her your plans to go to Columbia U. Take AP (or IB) courses if they are offered at your school. Inquire about other advanced, honors, or college courses offered at your high school and seriously consider taking them if you even want a shot at this school. If your hs is lacking advanced courses, sometimes hs lets you take courses at your local community college for credit– consider that too.
You should make honor roll as much as you can and make any other academic distinctions (National Honor Society, Spanish/German Honor Society, etc).
If you are into sports, play a sport all throughout high school– universities like to see that you are well-rounded. Also, be involved with a few school clubs (try to obtain an officer position if you can!).
Community service/volunteer work is also looked at by colleges. Don’t kill yourself with work, but certainly challenge yourself. An ideal candidate for a competative school is someone who is a leader (student government, club officer), someone well-rounded, and someone who challenges him/herself (courseload).
Don’t forget to take the PSAT and study for your SAT/ACT
