Is this a good academic suspension appeal letter (still need to work on the ending)?
Question by : Is this a good academic suspension appeal letter (still need to work on the ending)?
To whomever it may concern,
My name is ___________. I am 18 years old and have spent one semester of my freshman year at UW Eau Claire. Currently, I am declared as a Chemistry major and a Music minor. This semester, I took 16 credits dispersed over 6 courses: Symphonic Choir, Chemical Principles, Calculus 1, Elementary Written and Aural Theory, and Applied Voice. I was academically suspended due to my low grades in these classes. I believe the reason for my poor academic performance stems from the newness of college, and living on my own for the first time. I had trouble disciplining myself to manage my time properly, I didn’t take things seriously enough, and when I got behind, I was too shy to seek out and take advantage of the extra help that was available. I was treating my studies with the mindset I had used in high school and that was unacceptable. Another problem I encountered was keeping up with my music minor. The courses I was required to take for it were far more time consuming then I had expected, and I found myself spending more time on them then I did for my actual major.
I know that what I have done is inexcusable, and based on my current grades, I don’t deserve to come back spring semester, but I sincerely believe that if given a second chance I will be able to improve my grades dramatically. I will do this by
-Getting to know my teachers and visiting them during their office hours when I have questions.
-Finding tutors for classes I am struggling in (I have already lined one up for calculus).
-Taking advantage of the Academic Skill Centers’ time management and study skills tutoring and if possible take Gen201
-Drop my Music minor.
-Taking fewer credits, at least until I have established better time management skills.
My goal is to earn my bachelors degree and if possible work towards my masters. I know I haven’t made a great start towards these, but I know they are obtainable.
Gen 201 is a class to help students coming back from suspension to work on skills necessary to graduate
