College Jobs
We’re planning on moving to Grandblac, Michigan (but not necessarily Grandblanc) within a year. I would have to transfer from college, find a job and a good school for my son. I’ve never been to Michigan before so I have no idea what to expect besides the freezing winter. I live in Columbus, OH, which I like very much. I like to live where I know I can find almost anything; stores, schools, shopping centers, universities, entertainment, etc. But I don’t like to live in the main city, may be 30 min away! I’d like to get some good and not so good point of views! please give me some info about a nice place in Michigan!!!

Grand Rapids and West Michigan are very nice. The economy is depressed on the east side of the state (Flint, Detroit, Saginaw, etc.), but the Grand Rapids/West Michigan area is vibrant and growing fast, with a low unemployment rate. Plus, the area is beautiful with plenty of things to do.
Allendale, in particular, is a good place to live. It is about 20 minutes away from Grand Rapids, about 20 minutes away from the beach (Lake Michigan), and about 20 minutes away from the resort communities of Holland and Grand Haven. Allendale is also the home of a great university, Grand Valley State University and a good school district, Allendale Public Schools.

Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area is a great place, and there are jobs and good schools. There’s University of Michigan, and also Eastern Michigan University and Washtenaw Community College.
The schools are very good, and it’s just easy living.

Michigan is beautiful.
Grand Blanc is nice… but no work…. Great state for college… but no work. The auto industry has imploded there. Even bars, restaurants, bowling alleys, machine shops have been dropping like flies.
Beautiful, but it will be years (decades) before it can recover from the financial hit they have taken.
Now if you want to sell used machine stuff on eBay, that is the place to be. Auctions everywhere.
