is it possible to haggle in high street shops?
Question by messystudent: is it possible to haggle in high street shops?
i went shopping today ideally for some NIke trainers, i found some i liked for 85.00gbp, i tried them on, said i wasn’t happy about the price but liked the shoes, asked if we could work on the price, and the shop assistant said “no, we can’t do that, we don’t even offer student discounts” i said even if i offered 80.00 cash, could you? “no”.
why????????????
fed up paying ridiculous prices for high profit margin products.

usually difficult in chain stores.
in small shops run by the owner you often can.
it also depends on the country. the uk is on the probably not list.
a very large purchase is more conducive to negotiation.
sometimes you must speak to the store manager or owner

course you can haggle, you can play a few shops off against each other. it may take a bit of time and perseverance but you’ll soon find out which store/shop wants you business more.
