I’m a college student and struggling to find job. What could I be doing wrong?

College Jobs
I’m certainly qualified for “real” jobs, but with full-time university I really only want to work part-time. I’ve applied online at places, and am waiting to hear a call back. I’ve been looking for work for about a month. What am I doing wrong?
Perhaps I’m being too picky. I’ve been avoiding retail and serving, but maybe that’s all that’s out there for a college student, huh? Any tips?

Try applying in person. And yes, you may have to go with retail or restaurants.
Some of those online “openings” are like newspaper want ad openings. Employment agencies or temp agencies looking for new clients. Or companies run ads just to test the water and see what kind of response they get. In other words, a lot of those ads are not real jobs.

You’re forgetting you have a valuable resource for job hunting right on campus – the univeristy’s Career Placement Office. They should be able to help you – it’s what they do! They will have listings of jobs actively seeking college students, and should have other resources like resume writing and interviewing skills training. You should really check it out and expand your career options.
