College Jobs
I work as a shift manager at a fast-casual place in Michigan. It’s hard to find jobs around here. I have a degree from U of M, Ann Arbor. Should I join the Army? I’ve already had a Marine recruiter try to sign me up, but I am wary about them. My workplace is currently going to hell and I need a way out. I’ve always been interested in joining the Army. What are my options for becoming an officer?
Should I join another service?
Should I stay out and just do sales?

The Army is a great choice. I say go for it.
If nothing else you will learn more valuabable skills you wouldnt learn in the civillian world, and it would look great on your resume.

Military is a good option. and its a plus if you join with a degree. I just joined the coast guard. go with the branch that you feel most comfortable with.

Move out of this sorry state. Don’t just join the service because you want a job. You should only join if you want to serve your country.

Check out all the US Military Branches before signing for anyone of them. Make sure you and the branch you chose are the best fit.

DON’T JOIN!!! PLZ don’t. Unless you really want to. Just know about everything you’re putting on the line. Your family will also have to deal with this choice. It’s not just you.

It’s sad that a man has a college degree and still can’t find a job the way things are today. Yeah join the Army it’s a way out you will see the world and put that college degree to use.

You’ll likely enter as an officer. Your pay grade will definitely be higher.
Just be sure your eyes are OPEN! It’s still possible to be sent to the Middle East.
Even if troops are being brought home, you never know what country
may act up that forces the US to react.
To answer your question – I fully believe in and back our Military Forces. Blessings be with you whatever your choice may be.

well it depends. basically you are signing your life away. all your freedom and everything is taken. are you ready for that? it’s not just a regular job and paycheck. you don’t ever work 8-5. it’s a 24 hour job. i’m sure with more searching you could find a good job out in the real world. we’ve just seen one too many guys come in and regret ever signing up. a lot of them go U.A. (unauthorized absense). but, if you are willing to give up everything then go for it! do the marines
oooh and to add… you may go in as an officer but officers don’t get much respect and are still treated like any other enlisted. so if you do enlist just prepare for all the crap the military has to offer

Have you ever thought about starting your own business, take a look around with this in mind and use your vision and imagination.

Do not become a brave Bush boy. He would like you to fight for him but your degree must have taught you that there are better things to do with your life other than spill blood.
Just an afterthought but why is that big brave Marine recruiter not out there fighting the great fight(?) instead of pushing a pen around?

Others answers are great, if you want to in military, just join. If not or still not sure or might be not your dream type , you should review your CV and start asking your self Qs. You might need to get some more training in particular area.Or you might need to re-create your CV. I Have worked as a recruitment specialist for a while and recruited a lot, looked over thousands of CVs, it is more about improving your self, have a target, build your self , presentation and following up with your CV. However, it depends on your degree and it’s value in the market, and that makes it either hard or easy to find a job. If your market is full, think beyond the boundaries , use recruitment sites, careers, vacancies, etc. Do a missive distribution of your CV. Don’t depend on one agency. I have worked with many and you can’t rely on them a lot.
Your sort of career path is always in rush. People get kick in and out. So, you need to attach some evidence or some statements about your sales ratios or how many people did you manage, etc. The lot experiences you get in many places the best chance for you. I highly suggest you work overseas for a bit, it would give you fast boost in career path.
-You might need to read on some useful websites such as : http://www.businessballs.com/
- Or you might need to consult a recruitment specialist or give your CV to friends and see does it look tasty for companies?
Goof luck,

That is really up to you..As a career Army Officer…I would opt that you come join us. The Army does have many many opportunities for you. Some of the things you need to think about….What are my goals ? …What do I want to do in the Army? ie..Work in COMMUNICATIONS, Infantry etc…depending on your degree, you may qualify for a Direct Commission or you may have to go to OCS, After OCS you go to your specialty school. Then assigned to either another school like airborne or air assault..or you will get assigned to your first permemnant duty station. The recruiting office near you would be able to answer your questions. They have recrutiing for enlisted and officer at most recruiting stations.
The process for becoming an officer or enlisted is too lengthly to explain here..I will save that for any specific questions you may have.

Ann Arbor is a College Town. It is always going to be hard to find a job in cities where the biggest employer is the University. There’s always going to be heavy competition for low paying entry level jobs. Also the University of Michigan, Cleary University, and Concordia University and its students inflate the cost of living. You might consider looking at moving to a city where the economy has a need for your degree. However if you want to join the Military its an easy solution to your job issue.

if you dont have any moral considerents, than you should join the army. But if you believe that is not fare and right to be a mercenary (because that you’ll become – you’ll not serve your country, you’ll serve your pockett) and is not right to kill (you might kill innocent people, you never know in the war) than don’t.
I see that many people consider ( not only in USA, but in every country where army is optional) that soldiers serve their country and if they die, they are heroes. A heroe dies for an ideal, for justice and for a good cause, not for money or for glory. Or, in the past, when people died in war because they were obliged to fight and they didnt had any choise, they were victims, and even in this situation they did’nt died for money.
And about serving your country… shoudnt you ask yourself first if your country is fighting a good cause or doesnt? If your country is an agressor, is ok to help it?
I’m 24, I’ve gratuated this year, and is very hard for me either to find a rezonable job in romania, if this matters.
