You’re in 8th grade so if you’re serious about a career in medicine, don’t mess up! High school will get hard but stick in there! As far as schools for getting a Ph.D. look into University of Michigan <3

To become a psychiatrist, you need to start with a 4-year college degree. Major in anything and take the premed classes. This can be done at any college; since premed classes do not include classes in medicine, you do not need to attend a school with a medical school until after college. And you don’t have to look for a program specializing in psychiatry until after medical school for your residency. Since med school is very expensive, try a local state university for undergrad or a private school that gives you a lot of scholarships. Also, just for reference, you’d get an MD from a medical school, not a PhD.

You cannot study medicine on the undergraduate level in the U.S. You will first have to complete an undergraduate degree and take all the premedical courses while doing it. You do not have to major in a science if you’re a a premed, but many premeds do. Only in your last year of college will you apply to medical school.
There are many, many fine colleges and universities that offer very good premedical programs. The courses are the same at all of them, so you don’t necessarily have to choose a school that is “known for medicine.” Quite a few excellent colleges without medical schools would be fine places to do your undergraduate degree and your premed courses.
It is certainly true that Yale is a top-quality school (I went to Yale), and that its medical school is one of the best in the world. I encourage you to think about Yale for your undergraduate degree and maybe for medical school someday. However, it’s hard to get into on both levels, so right now, you should concentrate on your 8th grade and high school courses. Work as hard as you can, take the most challenging courses you can (especially in the sciences), and earn the highest grades you can. You have plenty of time to consider various possibilities for college.
In other words, you don’t have to pick a college THIS early, and you certainly don’t have to choose a medical school yet. You won’t be doing that for another 7 years or so.
