I Have A Question About Choosing A College?
I am kinda in a pickle right now. If you were going to employ someone, would you rather employ someone who graduated from a very reputable college with no experience whatsoever, or would you hire someone from an online college that noone has heard of, but years and years of experience? Before you ask, yes the college is accredited.
I just really want to do the second, but am not sure if it is worth possibly not getting hired. If it matters, my career will be in the hospitality industry, but not in hotels and food resteraunts. I want to be more directed towards theme park/amusement parks.
What do you guys think? Because if I do the online way, I will have multiple years of experience. But if I do the traditional college route, I won’t.

this question has been raised many times before, and the conclusion is usually that the employer prefers the person with the experience from the no-name college.

It’s part of the hospitality industry, since food and (often) lodging are involved, and the person able to master the most aspects of the industry will go the furthest. PLUS, you’ll need some accounting and economics and commercial law, and an ability to deal with engineers will be a plus. Just question whether or not you’ll get all that online, plus being around the engineers will help. An alternative route is a four-year university, plus summers and maybe even a year off for internships. My son did that after his junior year, and got a job in park (as in state park) management right away. Plus, the internships paid off most of his college loans. Aha!

I would opt for the traditional college route if at all possible. In my hiring practices, I’d first look to the education then the experience, but that could be limited to my field (legal).
