I chose College of the Holy Cross over University of Notre Dame. was this a mistake?

College Selection
I am from the Boston suburbs and just did not relish the idea of spending 4 years in dumpy South Bend, Indiana. I know the ND campus is beautiful but South Bend turned me off and was so far from civilization. Holy Cross also has a great campus and only 40 miles to Boston or Providence. I guess I also didn’t want to be too far from home to be honest.

wow! notre dame! that’s like rank #20 huh.
but hey, if you don’t want to be far away from home, it’s totally up to you.
every college has good professors, it’s just the people who get in the colleges that make them good.
environment is important to your learning curriculum, so it’s not a mistake. do what you want to do
and congratz! haha even if u regret some day, at least u got accepted into it right ~.^

It depends on what you want to do.
If you are simply wanting to “make it in the business world” ND is probably a better place to be.
If you simply want to get a decent education and be a “Normal ?? person” then most colleges will do.
You first need to decide what you think you want to do and be. After that there’s not usually too many hard decisions to make as far as which direction to go. .
Good luck.

It depends on what you want to do. If your intended career is something for which you need to be at the best possible school, then yes, you made a mistake. If you are planning to work in a local bank or be a kindergarten teacher or go into real estate or law enforcement or something like that, you should be fine.

Princeton Review rates the academics for these two schools as follows:
College of the Holy Cross: 98
Notre Dame: 94
Do well at Holy Cross and you can get into the same grad school that you would be going to coming out of Notre Dame. Notre Dame is better known nationally due to its sports but Holy Cross is highly respected. At #33 Holy Cross is the top ranked Catholic Liberal Arts College on the US News and World Report Rankings for national LACs.

I currently live in South Bend. It snows a lot. You get quite a bit of lake effect snow. The nightlife in SB is pretty dull. Downtown shuts down after 5. Restaurants leave a lot to be desired in the city. I’ve only come across two or three local places that I really enjoy. It also has a very high crime on the west side of South Bend. Outside of the downtown area will find you in some pretty rough neighborhoods where crime can be bad.. Families are exiting South Bend. Overall, the northern Indiana area has rotten weather, high crime, and high taxes. I dream of the day that my butt is out of this hell hole city …
