Question by Owen: How does the GI Bill work with military service and college?
I am thinking about enlisting after high school in order to pay for college. How long does one have to serve in the military in order to use the GI bill?
Do u get to choose the college and stay there? The branch I’m looking at is the USMC. And no I don’t want to be an officer because I don’t want that much responsibility.

Here is a better site to look at, as the GI benefits are changing.:

You have to complete at least two years of service in or to start using it. I mean they don’t want to give you money, and then you leave the military after a few months.
You can choose any college you choose, but they are not going to go above and beyond to pay for your schooling just because of the school you choose, so choose wisely. If you start a school, and want or have to move, then you can change schools, you will just have to let the VA administrator of the school know so he/she can transfer the necessary paperwork to the next school and inform VA.
It doesn’t matter what service you serve in the GI Bill is going to be the same.

I like the website http://education.military.com/money-for-school/gi-bill/learn-to-use-your-gi-bill. It has several links that should answer all your questions. You must serve for three years to receive the full benefit, but partial benefits begin at 90 consecutive days.
