Question by Anita: How do you choose a dream school is if you can’t visit?
How do I know if my dream school is the best school for me? I’m currently considering Washington University in St. Louis because there is a chance for dual admission into their undergraduate college and the med school, one of the best in the nation. Then there’s Cornell, which has an excellent academic reputation, beautiful Ivy League architecture, and natural surroundings.

I don’t have the means to visit. Did you choose your college without visiting any campuses, and how did you know it would be right for you?

Those are both very selective schools — perhaps you should apply first, see whether you get accepted, and then worry about it. You can’t go wrong with either school. They both have excellent academic reputations (although Wash U. is stronger for medicine) and intelligent students who will challenge and stimulate you academically and socially. Cornell is supposed to have a gorgeous campus, but Wash U. has a nice campus, too. Plus Wash U. has the whole city there right at your fingertips. The hospital complex is located in a trendy neighborhood with lots of cafes, boutiques, coffee shops and student housing. Either way, you’ll be fine.
