How can I get started as a freelance tutor for kids?

College Tutoring
My best skills are in English; reading, writing, that kind of thing. I would like to offer my services as a tutor. I have a college degree in an unrelated field, but no experience doing this. How can I get started? How much do tutors charge?

You could try advertising in the newspaper, but anyone answering the ad may ask what your qualifications are. Universities and colleges sometimes hire “student peer tutors,” but they typically choose them from among the students who are enrolled in the programs and getting the highest marks.
If you truly are interested in teaching, why not take courses part-time in the evening or online? Depending on the clientele you are looking for, you can take courses from a teacher’s college, or take special education teaching assistant training or adult education instructor training. And since you already have a degree, you may be able to apply to have a “prior learning assessment” at the college or university you choose.
In either case, your first step would be to talk to an employment counsellor or continuing education counsellor at your local college or university.
Good luck

Why don’t you get a job with an online tutoring service. With today’s rising gas prices, tutors and students can not really afford to meet eaach other in person. Plus, judging by the fact that you want to work freelance, I don’t think that you are the sort of person who has a lot of time on thier hands.
Felicity Motivational Group is always looking for tutors. They are an online tutoring company, which means that you can work when you want, and at your own pace. You make your own schedule. Plus, the pay is good, and they only hire people who have at least a bachelor’s degree. Check it out at: http://www.felicitymotivationalgroup.org/careeropportunities.htm
