How can I get more money for college?
Question by Ben: How can I get more money for college?
I would like to attend West Virginia University in the fall and I have filed for fafsa and am only being given $ 600 for the year. The cost for the year will probably be almost 30 thousand and my family is poor, I would have been given more money but a long story short my parents screwed me over on my their tax info. I need more money I don’t want to take out a million loans.

Have you tried applying for scholarships? Your local library should have a book full of sources for scholarships. If you can’t raise the $ 30,000 you need for WVU, I would suggest you attend a local junior college or community college to take the courses for your freshman and sophomore years.
What do you think? Answer below!

grants, scholarships, and loans. those are your options since you didn’t/can’t file as independent.

Nascar88 hit it on the head. Don’t rush things, if you can’t get enough in scholarships and don’t want to take out too much in student loans then attend a Community College for two years to get all your GenED (General Education: English, Math, Science etc.) courses out of the way. It’s really helpful in the long run because It’ll save you quite a bit of money and help you to determine your major. Then in two years it’s possible your financial situation may be different and your EFC may go down. If not then at least you’re only in a student loan situation where you only have to take out enough for two years. Good luck and God Bless.

You can try applying for scholarships (although most deadlines have past.)
You also got private loans (don’t suggest that at all)
Get a job and save.
The easier way is to go to a cheaper school. You may not like the school as much as West Virginia University but you’ll get used to it.
So your options basically are loans or cheaper school. (Think about this carefully. Think about life after college, not all the glam and glory now.)
I’m sorry, I didn’t pay too much attention the first time. You have 600 dollars but need 29,400 dollars…plus more for books. Yeah, there is no way you will get 29,000 dollars in loans. Reality wise, you need to go to a cheaper school because you have no other option.

Apply for the government loans or a work-study program in the university. Or consider another school.
