You can apply directly through companies that are offering internships. Job fairs. Ads in the paper or on websites such as monster.com. Also your college may have a website with postings, usually specific to majors. Many companies send postings directly to advising counselors to send out over the listservs. So you may want to re-think visiting that counselor.

It depends on what you are looking for. I would suggest looking online for job postings and around the boards at your school but craigslist always has some great job offers in the area. Also, if you are looking for internships I would suggest looking for a company that does what you would like and contact them about an internship. Also, like the last answer, I would suggest rethinking the visit to your guidance counselor, they have a lot of hook-ups with people in the area of work you would most likely want and can really help you get there. Also, this late in the game it may be hard to find something on your own so your counselor can really help in this area.
