Help me find a northeast college near NYC?
Question by M: Help me find a northeast college near NYC?
I live on Long Island and I am stressing out about college. I want to go to a liberal arts school in the northeast near NYC, but I want it to have a reputation as a great school. It needs great academics and a good art department. It is very important to me to have a really good academic environment; meaning small classes w/ debates and things that will make you think outside the box. I need to be intelluctual stimulated.
My GPA isn’t amazing because of a serious struggle with depression and daily, yes daily migraines during my junior year. I’m not trying to make excuses but I had all As/B+s until then and it’s evident from my transcript. The point is, I need a school with intelligent people.
GPA 3.6
Top 11% of class
6 APs, rest are honors
SAT pending, 2100+
Extracurriculars: National Art Honor Society, French Honor Society, Art Club, tutoring and volunteering at 2 animal shelters for over a year each. Planning on a photo internship this fall if it works out.
Thank you both for your suggestions! I have taken a few classes in high school that offer 3 college credits and Fordham is one of the only schools that don’t accept them

You have a good chance of getting into Columbia and NYU so I say try for those. If you don’t get in then also apply for Pace U and St. John’s University. All of them have very good reputations and are in NYC. You can also try for Hofstra which is in Long Island and has a good reputation as well.

I strongly suggest looking at Fordham University in NYC. It has a long tradition of excellence and highly regarded and your stats look very comparable to their typical accepted student.
