Help Choosing a College Laptop $1000 or Less?
Mar.31, 2010 in
College Selection
It can’t be a cent over $1000. I have A LOT of music that I want to be able to bring to college without the physical copies, so I need a lot of space, and a CD/DVD burner. Gaming compatibility would be great, I don’t want a slow computer. My parents want one with a web cam too. This is going to be my first laptop for college, any help choosing an exact model would be great.
I need one with good battery life too, as much as possible.

This baby will do the trick! It’s great for gaming, has a huge hard drive, and offers a $100 mail-in-rebate! All for under $1000! Can you do better? I think not.

If I were you, I would go with the HP Pavilion Dv4 1222r. Fancy name, but amazing. I’ve had it for 6 months and I couldn’t be happier.
Specs:
250gb Hard Drive
4 gb RAM
over 2 Mhz processor
webcam
Use the rebate and it comes out to $550

This is about the best laptop for your specifications:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115555
It has a core 2 duo, 4GB DDR3 RAM, and a dedicated 9600M 1GB video card. That is excellent considering it’s a laptop. It also has about the most HDD space you’ll find for these specs, 500GB. other links you’re getting have mostly around 250GB, and that’s not enough considering what you said. you should have at least 350GB. Get it now while it’s $100 off before it exceeds your budget. Plus, free shipping.
As for a webcam, it has no integrated, so here:

It’s cheap, free shipping.

Try this one-
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115555
It has a 500GB HDD, the most you’ll find in laptops, a DVD Super Multi drive, 4GB of DDR3. and a 9600M GT for gaming. The only problem you may have with it would be portability. It has an 18.4″ screen. Even though it has a large screen, the 8 cell battery provides reasonably good battery life. If that is an unacceptable screen size, then consider this Asus-

It has a 14″ screen, a 320GB HDD, a DVD Super Multi drive, 4GB of RAM, and a GT 120.This should have pretty good battery life. It can also play games, but not as well as the first one. Both should be satisfactory, but if I were you I would take the first one.
