Experience vs Money….college?
Question by jklopp423: Experience vs Money….college?
I’m a senior in high school and I’m slowly applying to colleges. My parents say i have to stay in state, and under K per year (including room&board). I really would like to go out of state just for the experience, but my parents don’t understand this. If I follow their guidelines, they pay for it. If not, who knows. I’m so confused and i’m getting different answers from everyone. What would you do?

Dude, I had to pay for my own college and I have massive debt right now. Stay in state and get it paid for, you wont regret it. If you have to pay for it yourself you will have to work in college and you dont want that. College is a time for fun and friends and you want to have as much free time as possible.

Well it seems pretty straight forward to me… Your parents want you to stay close and are willing to pay for your education if you do. You want to move far away but you have no way to pay for it. It seems to me like you will either have to stay close to home or take out some student loans and go wherever you want.

Honestly, stick with state for your Bachelors because you learn the same exact stuff you would at an elite, more expensive college. When it comes to your Masters however, go all out as that is where the money makes a difference.
Dont forget, student loans are ridiculous nowadays so spend little on your bachelors. Who cares what your friends say, you will be the one laughing when they are bogged down in debt and you have extra cash for going out and going to a great grad school

You can work a night time Job if you really want to wear yourself out and go to college full time but I would much rather prefer to get it paid for and if that requires you to stay in state then do so.

I would stay in my stateunless there was a really good college out of state for what I was interested in.

Try to compromise with your parents. Ask them if we can use the 15K per year towards a school you choose out of state? You can pay the balance by taking out loans. If you don’t want to take out any loans then you need to listen your parents. You are so lucky that your parents even have the money to help you pay for school. Some people don’t have any help. I know you are young but debit is not a good thing.
