Do I have to buy the full version of 7 if my XP is not genuine? (as apposed to upgrading to 7?
Question by DreamCube: Do I have to buy the full version of 7 if my XP is not genuine? (as apposed to upgrading to 7?
Now I know this is a shaky question…
But I have a laptop with a…. well, a VERSION of XP on it. I’d like to actually BUY windows 7. Since I’m a college student, I found a discount on Windows 7, but it says Upgrade. I looked up the difference between the upgrade and actual version and it said that you just need to have A previous version of Vista or XP. Now what I’m wondering is can I upgrade from that version or will it check that it is a legit version.
Inshort… do I have to buy a full version of Windows 7 or can I use the upgrade.
Yes… I’m a horrible person and I’m paying for it. (The XP was ungenuined a little while ago and I’ve decided to just buy 7 to stop all this nonsense.) Thanks.

If the XP is un genuine, the new upgrade OS won’t install. This is the first thing it checks.

First of all,
XP can not be upgraded to windows 7.
It has to be a clean install.
secondly.
you need to download then run the upgrade advisor from microsft
to see if your computer is able to run windows 7 or not.
if it is able to run it,
you then have to get all the drivers needed to run your computer in windows 7
from your computer manufacturers website.
before you start to install windows 7
then save them to a CD or DVD.
