College acceptance help!!!!?
Question by brown eyed girl: College acceptance help!!!!?
I have a 3.0 grade point average for my junior year. I’m really trying to find a 4 year college that I can get accepted into. I attend a hard core college prep school. I have 100’s of hours of volunteer work at the community hospital, local aquarium, field working, church, and tutoring. I have many extra curricular actives such as cheerleading, dancing, singing, acting, and piano. I have been on the honor role for 2 years. I am also in many clubs at school. I am the vice president of our glee club and a member of the women in science club and history club.
I was wondering what colleges I should apply to that would most likely accept me?

Where do you want to go to school? West coast, east coast, south, midwest…?

I agree with “spud.” I’m a student at an Ivy League school and I got a 4.4 my junior year, at a college prep school. I really was working my butt off. A lot of my friends have gone to state schools, or the more prestegious UC schools (UCLA, UC Berkeley), and also private colleges, and I’ve seen what kind of grades they have and what sort of extracurricular activities they do. If you’re looking to go to school in southern California, for example, I think you will be able to get accepted to Loyola Marymount University and University of San Diego. A school like USC might not happen… a friend of mine with credentials similar to yours (she had 500 hours of community service, was president of a club and took part in several other clubs) got rejected from USC. I think her GPA was higher too.

Have you talked to your school guidance counselor yet? Make an appointment. He/She can give you the best advice on colleges. That’s what they are there for–to answer and guide students.
My husband was a high school counselor for 16 yrs (now retired) and that’s what he did mostly. Helped kids find and apply to colleges and universities all over the country.
I’d start looking at college catalogs now if I were you.

We need your ACT or SAT score b/c if you score horribly low on the ACT then that might close alot of doors even with your exceptional extra-curricular activities and your good GPA. Also what region of the country is an option for you?
Well im a high school senior graduating this semester (WHOO HOO!!!) from Ohio and i dont want to pay out of state tuition so i chose to apply to Ohio State, Ohio University, and University of Cincinnati. My personality fits the best with Ohio State, but my credentials might only be good enough to get into Ohio University. So for you its all about what type of school you want to go to. What matches your personality, finances, preferred distance, and many other factors. If you just add some more information like what region of the country are you looking at and how far you want to go away to school then i will be happy to tell you what colleges i think will accept you.

You can’t go to an ivy league school, but nearly any state school will accept you, and most private schools will accept you too. Go to Collegeboard.com and research different schools you want. Click on the “How Do I Stack Up” button to see what the average GPAs and SAT scores are for those schools. And don’t be afraid to apply to a College that might not accept you. You’ll never get into a great school if you don’t even try.
