Choosing A Major When Applying To College?

College Selection
okay i have heard a million times that your declared major has no affect on your acceptance to a college.
so please dont repeat that to me.
for the sake of this argument, lets assume thats not true.
do you think, after reviewing a schools statistics on what major is most accepted to a school, that applying for the least popular major or most popular major would help you get in? or would it be something else entirely? ideas, speculations, opinions, whatever, appreciate it thanks

I truly do think that applying for the least popular major will help you get in….In my opinion, you will seem to have much less competition – and you can change your major whenever.

It depends on the school. At many schools, they have impacted majors, which are majors so popular that it’s harder to get into compared to other majors. For example, when I applied as an engineering major at Berkeley, they specifically said that it’s harder to get into than applying as a non engineering major. Outside of impacted majors, I don’t think your selection of major matters. Whether you apply as this or that doesn’t matter because colleges know that people can and will change their minds.
To maximize your chances of getting into a school, it would probably be ideal to choose a major that you’re interested in and can show passion through your application. Statistics can only measure the objective parts of the application and not the subjective parts, such as your essay and ECs.

Look. This question is stupid because you already answered your question.
College do not care what your major is! Those stats are for those who declared their major at the end of their sophomore year.
Professors at schools work hard to influence freshman and sophomores to go into their fields for their majors.
