The best way to find out is to check with your local Apple Store. I believe the discount applies, but you’ll need to find out what kind of proof is required. They may want just a student ID, or maybe even ID plus proof you’re currently enrolled in classes.

Yes, you can still get your student discount at any retail Apple Store location. You will need to bring some sort of verification, the easiest one being your student ID card. Other alternate means of verification include logging into student webmail, acceptance letter and/or recent transcripts.
I actually purchased my Mac Pro online with my student discount. What made me feel better was the fact that my computer was insured when it was shipped, meaning any damage done to the computer in transit was covered. Apple ships their products via FedEx/DHL/UPS, and signature upon receipt is a requirement. For me, when the computer arrived, I made the courier wait until I opened the box, physically checked to make sure everything was there and not broken, and only then did I sign for it. Either way, the choice is yours, and I understand your paranoia. Good luck with your purchase.
