Question by Kim: Any advice on getting more money for college?
I’m suppose to start Schreiner University in the Fall, but I owe them a total of ,000 for the Fall and Spring semester together. I already received the Pell Grant, Scholarships, and Federal Standford loans. I was going towards a Private loan, but both my parents claim to have bad credit and they won’t cosign. I’ve tried fastweb along with other sites for Scholarships and I’ve had no luck so far. I know Schreiner is expensive, but it is my dream college and I don’t want to go anywhere else. Does anyone know of what I can do to get more money for school? I’ve talked to the school about it too, and the only options that they’ve said I had was a private loan or payment plan. The problem with those is that I don’t have a cosigner and the payment plan is monthly starting at 0, which I qualify for work study, but that money is already going to them. Please any help will be appreciated….
All of my grandparents passed away before I got to know any of them and my other relatives won’t help either. I have no credit, so I figured that there’s no way to get a private loan without a cosigner.
I already said that I qualify for work study, so I will be working, but that money will already go to the school and it has a deadline to be paid for, which isn’t far away.
Thanks, but I’m not going to give up until I find a solution or at least keep trying to. I already went to a community college and I just graduated in May with my Associate’s for Psychology, English, and Liberal Arts. One of the reasons on why I chose this college is because it’s smaller unlike other university’s and the one that I was going to attend doesn’t offer enough classes.
Thank You all for the advice, Yesterday I was emailed from Schreiner and told that they got me an additional ,000, I was also told to try the workforce center, so I’m doing that on Wednesday. I should only owe now around ,000 with only ,000 being during the fall, so it’s all working out after all.

Well, if your parents won’t co-sign, do you have any other relatives that would? A grandparent or aunt/uncle?

Otherwise, you may be able to get a loan on your own. There’s no way to know unless you try.
