Student ticket agencies have often negotiated more flexible conditions on the tickets which are often as cheap as they would be from an airfare consolidator. The difference with most student tickets, however, is if you need to change the return date, for example, the fee can range from $25 to $75 + any difference in airfare. Try that direct from the airline or through a travel agency or consolidator, and you’re looking at $200 to change + any additional airfare.

Usually, student fares are just discounted off the full-fare ticket … so it would be cheaper to purchase an advance-fare ticket.
Fare prices always depend on: date of travel, day of week, time of day, how far in advance you’re purchasing the ticket, and city pairs.
Check online travel sites and when you find a fare that you can afford, go to the airline’s website and see if they have it cheaper … sometimes they save those fares for their own website.
