I have heard it said that you can get a job that will enable you to work for ever painting dinosaur toenails for minimum wage and that is after three years of instruction. So I think you need to get out there make contacts do a lot of networking and build a portfolio. Offer to intern with design studios which have a good reputation. Gain experience, advertise and you will get work to design web sites etc. Do not overprice yourself too early. Do not give up. Be aggressive.
Sheridan and Seneca are good placements but there are others. If you want to travel try to get into Emily Carr in B.C. and there is always The Toronto School of Art, George Brown and Danforth Tech.
